  Are Gods true worshippers on Earth today? If they are not JWs then who are they?

  If the bible is untrue then the god of the bible doesn't exist.

  The simple answer is there are no true followers of a non-existent god.

  What is the purpose of life?

  while reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.

  because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".

  i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

  in recent years significant progress has been made in solving the question of how life originated on our planet.. how do you think theists will respond when it finally happens?

  as a former christian i know my reaction would have been something like "well that just goes to show that it takes intelligent life to make life", but for two reasons that defense doesn't work.. firstly it would prove that life is not an ethereal force that originates with god.

  there is no 'ghost in the machine', no elan vital.

  If you are feeling depressed then you have to do something about the situation you are in.

  No easy answers. Expressing your doubts would be a good start, especially if he's noticed something is wrong and would be inclined to be understanding. Gently and slowly, one point at a time.

  The alternative is to stay in and act out the rest of your life. Only you will know if this is the best option or not but it doesn't sound like it.

  an old friend of mine committed suicide this week.

  he was a great guy; pleasant to be around, a hard worker, kind.

  everybody at work liked him.. then something changed.

  The society uses shunning to control the people who know the one to be shunned. It is done as a 'self-serving' strategy for their own gain.

  That is nothing near the reason for how you dealt with your friend. It's a totally different motive and perspective, even though it may look similar.

  meeting with elders about WT involvement in UN

  i still go to the meetings because of my in wife and it came about that the elders knew of my pissed off attitude about the society getting involved in the un.

  so the elders said they could help me get over that and wanted to meet with me.

  now just to let you know, i have only told my wife and her mom so far about it, that's it.

  If you are worried about being labelled an apostate then just talking about the UN will be a huge mistake.

  If the elders coming to see you do any kind of research on line, they will see that the UN issue is a favourite among apostates. You are therefore already at great risk of being accused of being one.

  If you flash a UN letter under their noses, you will be hauled before a judicial committee quicker than you can say 'repentance'.

  The fact they know you have been talking to either your wife or her mother has probably already put you in the position of actually being an apostate.

  If you don't want to get booted out, it would be advisable for you to downplay what you know and keep all the information about the UN to yourself.

  Can’t cope with being disfellowshipped…..Need some advice

  this site is great, i have been lurking for a while now.

  but i can’t get reinstated and have used some of the advice already given.. i was df’d many months ago and go to all the meetings and do all the preparation for the meetings, but the jc committee keep refusing me.

  tomorrow at the clam meeting i am puting yet another letter in and will be called for another dreadful jc meeting.. 1. what can i say to the elders to show that i am truly repentant?.

  when i first met my wife and on that so important first date i was 21 years old and sadly broke, she was an 18 year old au pair.

  any way i treated her to mcdonald's but she had to pay for the meal.

  now over 20 years later and still together, i realize how lucky i was she didn't say on that first date " if you can't afford to pay "our" mcdonald's meal f...off" .

  'Split equally' is putting both bills together and dividing by two, which may or may not be fair depending on how much either person eats.

  Each person paying for their own meal means each person only pays for what they personally eat or drink.

  Can make for a much cheaper date.
